The National Science Foundation has selected the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) as one of 34 semifinalists for the inaugural NSF Regional Innovation Engines competition. The NSF Engines program is anticipated to be transformational for the nation, ensuring the U.S. remains globally competitive in key technology areas for decades to come. Each NSF Engine could receive up to $160 million over 10 years.

This month, the General Services Administration (GSA) hosted its 4th community meeting on the BOTA Land Port of Entry Modernization Project. GSA presented various alternatives under consideration, shared project schedules and goals, provided information about small and disadvantaged business contracting opportunities, and provided an opportunity for the public to share comments.
The next step in the planning process is the NEPA/Environmental studies, which are currently expected to be completed around October 2024. The studies will be used to further evaluate the alternatives and identify any environmental concerns prior to moving forward on project alternatives.

The Office of Adolescent Health and the Office of Public Health and Science granted $1,972,000 to Project Vida Health Center for their "Be You: Border Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program" project.

Ysleta del Sur Pueblo (YDSP) was awarded $70,897 by AmeriCorps through their FY2023 AmeriCorps State and National Native Nations grant competition. The YDSP will support 10 half-time AmeriCorps members who will provide AmeriCorps service opportunities in YDSP and El Paso County.

Clean School Bus Program Grants Authorized by the BIL, the EPA’s Clean School Bus Program provides $5 billion over five years to replace school buses with low- and zero-emission school buses. Closing Date: Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Apply.

Energy Improvements in Rural or Remote Areas This Department of Energy program will provide financial investment, technical assistance, and other resources to advance clean energy demonstrations and energy solutions that are replicable and scalable for rural and remote areas of the U.S. with 10,000 or fewer inhabitants. Energy Efficiency Materials Pilot Program This FOA seeks applications that address energy efficiency upgrades, which enable scalable impacts, create innovative partnerships, and leverage funding and economies of scale. National Competitive Outreach Program This program provides eligible governmental and non-governmental entities with the funding and resources needed to increase awareness of and participation in the ACP among those eligible households most in need of affordable connectivity. The IRA’s $370 billion in investments will lower energy costs for families and small businesses, accelerate private investment in clean energy solutions in every sector of the economy, strengthen supply chains, and create good-paying jobs and new economic opportunities for workers. 2023 SPSD Collaborative Soil Science Research The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), an agency under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), is announcing the potential availability of funding for agreements for the purposes of supporting cooperative research in soil science and soil survey. The purpose of the 2023 Soil Survey Cooperative Research Proposals is to promote research that informs and improves soil surveys.
