Happy New Year! In 2023, our community experienced much success in securing federal funding to expand and enhance programs and services in El Paso. I look forward to continuing to advocate for grant applicants in 2024 to ensure our community garners as much support as possible from federal grant-making agencies.

In 2023, local governments, institutions of higher education, independent school districts, and non-profit organizations in TX-16 secured over $212 million in grant funding alone! Funds secured will be used to expand health services, initiate transportation projects, etc.

Community Connect Grant Program Deadline: Feb 20, 2024
Description: The Community Connect provides financial assistance to eligible applicants that will provide broadband service in rural, economically challenged communities where service does not exist.
Eligibility: Incorporated organizations, federally recognized Tribes, State and local units of government, any other legal entity, including cooperatives, private corporations, or limited liability companies organized on a for-profit or not-for-profit basis

ICYMI: Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grant Program Deadline: Nov. 21, 2024
Description: The EPA is accepting applications on a rolling basis for $2 billion in Inflation Reduction Act funding available to support community-driven projects that build capacity for communities to tackle environmental and climate justice challenges, strengthen their climate resilience, and advance clean energy.
Interested applicants can utilize the Community Change Equitable Resilience Technical Assistance Program, which consists of free design and project development assistance, community engagement, and partnership development workshops, with the intent of helping eligible entities apply for the Community Change Grants.

Biden-Harris Administration Announces $600M to 11 Grantmakers to Fund Thousands of Environmental Justice Projects Across the Nation as Part of Investing in America Agenda El Paso is part of EPA's Region 6. The Region 6 selected awardee is Texas Southern Univeristiy. Grantmakers are expected to begin opening competitions and awarding subgrants by summer 2024. Community-based nonprofit organizations and other eligible organizations seeking subgrant funding will be able to apply for subgrants through three concurrent tiers offered by the Grantmakers. Advisory Committee on Transportation Equity (ACTE)
The Advisory Committee on Transportation Equity (ACTE) will hold its third meeting Friday, January 5, 2024, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. MT via Zoom. This meeting is the third in a series of meetings of the ACTE planned for the first Friday every other month. The full agenda for the meeting can be found on the DOT website and here.

Webinar on the Draft Policy for Public Participation in Agency Decision-Making Processes
EPA announced the release of the draft policy, Achieving Health and Environmental Protection Through EPA’s Meaningful Involvement Policy, that outlines updates on how the agency will engage with the public and provide meaningful public involvement in all of its programs and regions. This policy is grounded in the acknowledgement that the EPA's actions further strengthen health and environmental protections when they are informed by individuals with lived experience. The draft policy is available until January 16, 2024.

Funds generated at GW Boutique will support the organization's mission of providing employment training and opportunities to people with barriers to employment.

The Cooperative Purchasing Expo provides an opportunity to learn how to participate in cooperative purchasing programs used by governmental agencies across the country. This is an excellent opportunity to learn what cooperative contracts are, how government entities use them, how cooperative contracts can help businesses grow, and to network via business-2-business and business-2-agency.
