Funding Highlights in TX-16

Recently, in partnership with the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) Center, my office held a webinar on Direct Pay tax credits for eligible entities for green infrastructure. If you missed the session, you can see the Webinar Recording - Passcode: Dc^h43yN by clicking on the link.

I’m proud to share that the El Paso Children’s Hospital secured a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s Health Resources and Services Administration totaling $690,120. The funds will be used towards the Children’s Hospital proposal titled “Children's Hospitals Graduate Medical Education Payment Program.”

Just last week, the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo (YDSP) secured $76,061 in AmeriCorps funds. The funds will allow YDSP to have 10 AmeriCorps members who will provide AmeriCorps service opportunities, including Nation Building, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services, Financial Literacy, Cultural and Historic Education, and Economic Development in Ysleta del Sur Pueblo and El Paso County.

Title V Competitive Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE)

Deadline: Jul 8, 2024

Description: The purpose of the Title V Competitive SRAE Program is to fund projects to implement sexual risk avoidance education that teaches participants how to voluntarily refrain from non-marital sexual activity. Successful applicants are expected to submit plans for the implementation of sexual risk avoidance education that normalizes the optimal health behavior of avoiding non-marital sexual activity, with a focus on the future health, psychological well-being, and economic success of youth

Competitive Personal Responsibility Education Program (Competitive PREP)

Deadline: June 24, 2024

Description: The purpose of this program is to support projects that educate youth, between the ages of 10 and 19 years, and pregnant and parenting youth under age 21, on abstinence and contraception for the prevention of pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, and HIV/AIDS.

Media Projects

Deadline: August 14, 2024

Description: This program supports collaboration between media producers and scholars to develop content grounded in humanities scholarship and prepare documentary films and television, radio programs, and podcasts that engage public audiences with humanities ideas in creative and appealing ways. NEH makes Media Projects awards at two levels: Development and Production.

Public Humanities Projects

Deadline: August 14, 2024

Description: This program supports projects that bring the ideas and insights of the humanities to life for general audiences through in-person, hybrid, or virtual programming. Projects must engage humanities scholarship to analyze significant themes in disciplines such as history, literature, ethics, and art history.

Workforce Pathways for Youth - Rounds 4 and 5

Description: The Workforce Pathways for Youth demonstration grants support national out-of-school time organizations that serve historically underserved and marginalized youth ages 14 to 21. These grants expand job training and workforce pathways for youth, including soft skill development, career exploration, job readiness and certification, and work-based learning and work experiences.

Federal Electric School Bus Tax Credits 101

Description: Join WRI’s Electric School Bus Initiative for a free webinar about newly available federal tax credits supporting the deployment of electric school buses. Federal incentives like the Qualified Commercial Clean Vehicles Credit (section 45W) and Alternative Fuel Refueling Property Credit (section 30C) under the Inflation Reduction Act can reduce the cost of a new electric school bus as well as charging infrastructure. School districts can access these incentives through the IRA’s elective pay mechanism, which provides a new and streamlined way for tax-exempt entities to access these tax credits.

FY24 Body-Worn Camera Policy and Implementation Program to Support Law Enforcement Agencies Solicitation

Description: With this solicitation, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) seeks to support the purchase and lease of body-worn cameras (BWCs) by publicly funded law enforcement and corrections agencies as part of comprehensive BWC programs guided by sound policy and broad stakeholder input. In addition, the solicitation seeks to support demonstration projects that advance digital evidence management, leveraging BWC digital footage to promote evidence-based and procedurally just practices in agencies with established BWC programs.

Business Center

As part of Community Project Funding, I was proud to have secured $500,000 for the City of El Paso’s Business One-Stop-Shop (BOSS). The funding will be utilized to develop a new facility for the program and serve our region’s business community. I am a firm believer that small businesses are the economic drivers of any community, and El Paso is no exception. I’m proud to support any initiative that looks to strengthen El Paso’s entrepreneurial spirit.

The power of networking is second-to-none when it comes to amplifying your business. 1 Million Cups (1MC) provides a supportive, inclusive space for entrepreneurs and their communities to gather and connect, where they can work through business challenges and identify opportunities. Every 1^st and 3^rd Wednesday of the month, 1MC hosts in-person events for local entrepreneurs to meet and present their startups to community members.

Did you know that grants and low-interest loans are available for food retail and infrastructure projects that increase healthy and affordable retail food options for underserved residents of El Paso County?
