Press Release
The Judiciary Subcommittee Hearing Will Examine Trump Administration’s Border Policies and the Relationship Between Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric and Domestic Terrorism

(El Paso, TX) – Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16), member of the House Judiciary Committee, will chair a Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship hearing entitled “Oversight of the Trump Administration’s Border Policies and the Relationship Between Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric and Domestic Terrorism” in El Paso, Texas, on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 10 a.m. MT.

“El Paso has unfortunately been ground zero for the Trump administration’s cruelty at the border. Callous policies like Remain in Mexico and family separation, the dangerous overcrowding of detention facilities, and metering have created a moral and humanitarian crisis in our country, and are corroding our American values,” said Congresswoman Escobar.

“As El Paso made the choice to employ compassion and goodwill to address our immigration challenges, on August 3, 2019, the community faced the deadly consequences of anti-immigrant rhetoric emanating from the White House. It’s clear that as a nation we must acknowledge this painful and dangerous trend. I applaud Chairman Jerrold Nadler and Subcommittee Chair Zoe Lofgren’s decision to hold this hearing in El Paso to shed light on the Trump administration’s harmful border policies and the relationship between anti-immigrant rhetoric and domestic terrorism in our communities.”

The hearing will take place at the El Paso Natural Gas Conference Center, University of Texas at El Paso, 2051 Wiggins Way, El Paso, Texas. More information can be found on Judiciary.House.Gov.
