Oversight of the Trump Administration

A critical aspect of a Congressmember's job is to conduct oversight; it's one of the most basic responsibilities of the legislative branch. Regardless of who's in power, Congresswoman Escobar takes this part of her job incredibly seriously.

Legislation Supported by Congresswoman Escobar

  • Prevent Tariff Abuse Act: This legislation would stop the President of the United States from imposing import tariffs under the guise of a national emergency without Congressional approval.
  • Department of Education Protection Act: This legislation would shield the U.S. Department of Education from efforts by the Trump administration to dismantle the agency and ensure every student receives the free and appropriate public education they deserve. Specifically, this bill would prohibit the use of appropriated funds to be used to decentralize, reduce the staffing level of, or alter the responsibilities, structure, authority, or functionality of the Department of Education. This bill also emphasizes the importance of maintaining the current organization of the Department of Education and reiterates the fundamental role of Congress in shaping and reshaping the agency.
  • National Origin-Based Anti-discrimination for Nonimmigrants (NO BAN) Act: This bill would prevent future bans by the Trump administration on people of Islamic faith, or any other religious group, by strengthening the Immigration and Nationality Act to prohibit discrimination based on religion. The bill would also require that any suspension of entry into the United States be narrowly tailored, backed by credible evidence, and subject to appropriate consultation with Congress.
  • Taxpayer Data Protection Act: This bill proposes to enhance the protection of taxpayer information from unvetted individuals like Elon Musk and those he employees through DOGE by implementing stricter data security measures and penalties for unauthorized disclosures.
  • Protect Veteran Jobs Act: This legislation would reinstate eligibility for veterans who were involuntarily removed or otherwise dismissed without cause from civil service positions.
  • Model Employee reinstatement for Ill-advised Termination (MERIT) Act: This legislation would reinstate federal employees who were unjustly fired by Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s DOGE initiative that targeted federal workers. In addition to rehiring these workers, the MERIT Act gives them the back pay they deserve.
  • Rights for TSA Workforce Act: This legislation would ensure that all 65,000+ Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees – including frontline Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) – are afforded the same worker rights, protections, and pay system afforded to other Federal workers under Title 5 of the U.S. Code. This legislation is introduced as the Trump Administration moved to cancel TSA’s current collective bargaining agreement.
  • Protect America's Workforce Act: This legislation would restore collective bargaining rights for unionized federal employees, reversing Trump's Executive Order titled “Exclusions from Federal Labor-Management Relations Programs” which aimed to eliminate collective bargaining rights across multiple federal agencies. Specifically, the order targeted employees in the Departments of Defense, State, Veterans Affairs, Justice, and Energy, as well as certain employees in the Departments of Homeland Security, Treasury, Health and Human Services, Interior, and Agriculture. In total, the order impacted roughly 67% of the federal workforce, according to independent reports.
  • Hands Off Medicaid and SNAP Act of 2025: This legislation would establish a budget point of order against considering budget reconciliation legislation in the House or the Senate that (1) reduces enrollment or benefits for individuals enrolled in the Medicaid program, or (2) reduces eligibility or benefits for households that participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
  • Protecting Election Administration from Interference Act of 2025: This legislation would strengthen our democracy by establishing greater safeguards against potential election subversion efforts. It would ensure elections and vote counting are performed fairly, transparently, and without partisan influence. The bill expands existing protections against election interference to include the vote counting and certification process and creates stronger standards for preserving election records.
  • Defend American Manufacturing Act: This legislation would protect a key program that supports local manufacturing companies across the country. The bill comes after President Trump quietly cut  the program in 10 states just hours before taking the stage to proclaim his support for American manufacturing.
  • Born in the USA Act: The legislation would prohibit any government funds from being appropriated or used to carry out President Donald Trump’s unconstitutional and illegal Executive Order 14160, that seeks to end citizenship for children born in the United States.
  • Stop ICE from Kidnapping U.S. Citizens Act: This legislation would formally block Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from detaining or deporting U.S. citizens.
  • Visible Identification Standards for Immigration-Based Law Enforcement (VISIBLE) Act of 2025: This legislation would require immigration enforcement officers — including DHS personnel such as Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), federal agents detailed to immigration operations, and deputized state or local officers — to display clearly legible identification, including their agency name or initials and either their name or badge number, in a manner that remains visible and unobscured by tactical gear or clothing. It would prohibit non-medical face coverings (such as masks or balaclavas) that obscure identity or facial visibility, with exceptions for environmental hazards or covert operations and require DHS to establish disciplinary procedures for violations, report annually to Congress on compliance, and investigate complaints through its Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.
  • Hands Off Our Social Security Act: This legislation would protect benefits from unauthorized tampering, delays, or changes and block the privatization of Social Security services or administration. It would enforce strict privacy protections for beneficiary data and Prohibit SSA staffing cuts without Congressional approval. The bill would Prevent field office closures without an impact report and consent from Congress and ensure communication access, maintaining phone and in-person services as core options.
  • Congressional Power of the Purse Act: This legislation would strengthen Congress’ authority over federal spending and stop President Trump’s ongoing illegal impoundments. It would update the Impoundment Control Act of 1974 and the Antideficiency Act to reaffirm that Congress — not the President — holds the power of the purse. It ensures that funding already approved by Congress, including investments in health care, infrastructure, and national security are delivered to the American people. This legislation follows the Trump administration’s announcement of an illegal “pocket rescission” of lawfully appropriated funds.
  • Securing Assurance for Federal Employees (SAFE) Act: This bill would block the Trump Administration from carrying out mass federal layoffs during a potential government shutdown if Congress fails to pass a spending bill.
  • Save American Democracy (SAD) Act: The bill would prohibit states from carrying out more than one Congressional redistricting after a decennial census and appointment unless it is strictly mandated in the legislation used to implement the new Congressional Map or it is necessary to comply with the Constitution of the United States, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 or the Constitution of the State.
