Congresswoman Veronica Escobar Statement on House Passage of USMCA

“As a representative of one of the largest manufacturing regions in North America, a vote for an updated NAFTA is a vote for the more than 23,000 El Pasoans dependent on a prosperous border economy.

Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16), member of the U.S.-Mexico Interparliamentary Group for the 116th Congress, issued the following statement after the House of Representatives voted on the United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA):

“As a representative of one of the largest manufacturing regions in North America, a vote for an updated NAFTA is a vote for the more than 23,000 El Pasoans dependent on a prosperous border economy.

“The improvements advanced by House Democrats promote new standards we can build upon to reflect the 21st century economy, including stronger enforcement mechanisms, enhanced worker protections, improved access to affordable prescription drugs for families and seniors, and environmental protections.

“This vote honors my promise to work to protect and expand our local economy without compromising our values.”
