(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019. This legislation expands background checks to cover all firearm sales and represents the first major House vote on gun violence prevention legislation in 25 years:
“El Pasoans and Americans across the country have raised their voices to demand action over thoughts and prayers. Today, the House of Representatives delivered on our promise to the countless victims and resilient survivors by voting on bipartisan commonsense gun safety legislation.
