Congresswoman Escobar Statement on House Passage of FY20 NDAA

“As member of the House Armed Services Committee, I am proud to have worked to craft and support the first NDAA under the new Democratic majority – a bill that includes key priorities for El Paso and Fort Bliss, delivers for our servicemembers and their families, and authorizes the funding needed for a strong, smart national defense strategy.

Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16), member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement after the House of Representatives voted on the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020:

“As member of the House Armed Services Committee, I am proud to have worked to craft and support the first NDAA under the new Democratic majority – a bill that includes key priorities for El Paso and Fort Bliss, delivers for our servicemembers and their families, and authorizes the funding needed for a strong, smart national defense strategy.

“This vote honors my responsibilities to our men and women in uniform in El Paso and across the globe, promotes a diverse and inclusive military, support additive manufacturing in our region, addresses operational and budgetary threats posed by climate change, and doesn’t authorize backfill of military construction funds robbed for President Trump’s ineffective and wasteful border wall.”

The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020, authorizes funding for the Department of Defense and the national security programs of the Department of Energy. A summary of the conference report is available here, and an overview of El Paso key priorities is available here.
