Congresswoman Escobar Statement on House Vote to Protect LGBTQ Individuals Against Discrimination

“I am immensely proud to have voted to pass the Equality Act to finally, fully end discrimination against LGBTQ individuals in Texas and across the country. This historic legislation honors the courage and persistence of tireless advocates and reaffirms that freedom from discrimination is a fundamental civil right.

Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5, the Equality Act. This legislation ensures that all LGBTQ individuals are granted the full protections guaranteed by federal civil rights law by extending anti-discrimination protections with regard to employment, education, access to credit, jury service, federal funding, housing and public accommodations:
