Congresswoman Veronica Escobar Statement on House Vote to Protect Dreamers and TPS and DED Holders
Washington, DC,
June 4, 2019
“I am proud to have voted to reject President Trump’s deportation machine and advance the American Dream by bringing relief and certainty to more than two million Dreamers and TPS and DED holders.
Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R.6, the American Dream and Promise Act. This legislation provides a path to lawful permanent resident status, and eventual citizenship, for Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) holders: “I am proud to have voted to reject President Trump’s deportation machine and advance the American Dream by bringing relief and certainty to more than two million Dreamers and TPS and DED holders. “These individuals are American in every way but on paper. They are part of the rich and beautiful fabric of El Paso and the United States, and deserve permanent protections to ensure they continue contributing to our communities and economy. “This vote honors my promise to keep families together and uphold the American values that El Paso deeply cherishes. I now call on the Senate to bring the American Dream and Promise Act to the floor immediately.” ### |
