Congresswoman Escobar Introduces Two-State Solution Resolution
Washington, D.C.,
March 14, 2024
Earlier this week, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) introduced H.Res.1074, reaffirming the U.S. House of Representatives' support for a two-state solution in Israel and Palestine. “Nearly 100 Democrats have joined this resolution to strongly reaffirm the U.S. House of Representatives' longstanding support for a two-state solution that would ensure the sovereignty, peace, and security of Israelis and Palestinians alike,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “This resolution reflects a commitment to addressing the legitimate aspirations and rights of both Israelis and Palestinians to live in safety and security, and to enjoy freedom, dignity, and prosperity. As President Biden said during his State of the Union address, ‘the only real solution is a two-state solution.’ That’s why I’m proud to stand with my colleagues and, in one voice, express our shared belief in a more peaceful future for Israelis and Palestinians.” The Resolution was co-sponsored by 95 Democratic Representatives and endorsed by JStreet, Foreign Policy for America, Americans for Peace Now, Ameinu, and the National Council of Jewish Women. It reads: Whereas Israelis and Palestinians have the right to live in safety and security and to enjoy freedom, dignity, and prosperity; and Whereas the House of Representatives is committed to ensuring the enduring peace and security of both Israelis and Palestinians: Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the House of Representatives (1) reaffirms the State of Israel’s right to exist, as a Jewish, democratic state (2) recognizes Palestinians’ right to sovereignty and self-determination through a Palestinian state (3) supports a two-state solution as the best path to achieve lasting peace (4) condemns all calls and actions that reject and undermine a two-state solution.
