Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) announced her appointment by the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee to serve on the House Judiciary Committee:

“I couldn’t be more honored to have been named to serve on the House Judiciary Committee by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “I stand ready to work under the leadership of Chairman Jerrold Nadler to defend our constitution and be a voice for El Paso, the border region, and the American people.”

“I am proud to welcome Congresswoman Veronica Escobar to the House Committee on the Judiciary,” said Chairman Jerrold Nadler. “Representative Escobar brings incredible experience with her having served as County Judge and Country Commissioner for El Paso, where she worked on issues central to the role and jurisdiction of our Committee. At such a critical time in our nation’s history, I look forward to working with Congresswoman Escobar as we continue the important work of the Judiciary Committee in fighting to protect the rule of law, strengthening our safety and security from enemies foreign and domestic, shielding Americans’ civil rights and civil liberties, and guaranteeing that all people, no matter their age, race, gender, religion, ability, finances, nationality, or sexual orientation, are treated fairly and equally.”

The Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over immigration and border security, admission of refugees, all matters concerning the United States Constitution, including amendments and constitutional rights, the Federal Criminal Code, drug enforcement, parole and pardons, internal and homeland security, the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, prisons and criminal law enforcement, regulatory reform, commercial and antitrust law, and courts, intellectual property, and the internet. This appointment comes a day after Congresswoman Escobar was named to serve on the prestigious House Armed Services Committee.
