Congresswoman Escobar Statement on House Passage of Mitch McConnell’s Border Supplemental

“I was ready to end this inhumanity by voting for legislation that would uphold our American values and bring relief to El Pasoans during this challenging time. Unfortunately, Mitch McConnell refused to increase accountability and oversight and address our challenges at our southern border. Today, Congress should have done and could have done better.”

Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives voted for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s border supplemental appropriations bill:

“Since taking the oath of office, I have worked tirelessly to ensure El Paso’s voice is heard in Washington and achieve compromise to change the status quo. Over the last two years, our nation has witnessed the deaths of children in government custody, the dangerous overcrowding of migrants in detention facilities, and the continuation of the Trump administration’s cruel family separation policy.
