Congresswoman Veronica Escobar Appointed to House Armed Services Committee for the 116th Congress

“I’m honored and grateful to have been named to the House Armed Services Committee,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “This is a critical appointment for the Fort Bliss Army Base and El Paso. I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues and under the leadership of Chairman Adam Smith.”

Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) announced her appointment by the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee to serve on the prestigious House Armed Services Committee.

“I’m honored and grateful to have been named to the House Armed Services Committee,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “This is a critical appointment for the Fort Bliss Army Base and El Paso. I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues and under the leadership of Chairman Adam Smith.”

The House Armed Services Committee has exclusive jurisdiction for defense policy generally, ongoing military operations, the organization and reform of the Department of Defense and Department of Energy, counter-drug programs, security and humanitarian assistance of the Department of Defense, acquisition and industrial base policy, technology transfer and export controls, joint interoperability, detainee affairs and policy, force protection policy and inter-agency reform of the Department of Defense and the nuclear weapons programs of the Department of Energy.
