Washington, DC,
December 19, 2019
“In moments of great tragedy, we’ve been able to count on Americans to come together to exhibit strength and unity, showing that we are one people, one country. Not Republicans, not Democrats, but Americans.
Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16), member of the House Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement on her vote for H.Res. 755, Impeaching Donald John Trump, President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors: “In moments of great tragedy, we’ve been able to count on Americans to come together to exhibit strength and unity, showing that we are one people, one country. Not Republicans, not Democrats, but Americans. “Today, our country faces another tragedy and moment of truth. President Trump has abused his public office for personal political gain and invited foreign governments to interfere in our elections, putting the integrity of our democracy at risk, leaving the House of Representatives no choice but to act to protect our great nation. “I do not take my oath of office lightly. That is why, with El Pasoans and our fragile democracy in my heart and mind, I stood with my fellow patriots to uphold my oath and defend the Constitution.” ### |
