Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) released the following statement on the recent Supreme Court ruling in Trump v. United States:

“Today’s Supreme Court ruling in Trump v. United States directly contradicts one of the fundamental principles of our country that no one is above the law. The conservatives of the nation’s highest court of the land – half of whom were handpicked by the defendant and convicted felon central to this case – just rubber stamped what I fear will prove to be one of the most existential threats to our republic. The Supreme Court has fundamentally altered the nature of democracy in our country; today’s ruling shields any president from meaningful accountability, again casts a dark stain on our history, and worsens the already perilously low faith in our institutions.”
