Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced she will be joining the Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies and the Subcommittee on Homeland Security in the 119th Congress. The Appropriations Committee is responsible for overseeing and funding all federal government agencies, departments, and organizations on an annual basis, and works through twelve separate subcommittees, each focusing on specific portions of the federal budget. “I’m thrilled to have a direct role in funding critical components of our federal government, funding that flows to El Paso and our nation, such as crucial infrastructure needs of the Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Homeland Security, and more,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “The two subcommittees I join today have a significant impact on our community, and my work on these subcommittees will help prioritize El Paso’s needs as we craft our federal government’s spending bills.” Together the Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies and the Subcommittee on Homeland Security set funding for roughly 15% of the federal budget. The subcommittees have jurisdiction over: Military Construction, Veterans Affairs: Department of Defense
Department of Veterans Affairs Related Agencies
Homeland Security: Department of Homeland Security, including infrastructure and technology for our land ports of entry, funding DHS personnel, and more. |
