Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16), Mayor Renard Johnson, County Judge Ricardo Samaniego, Jon Barela, Chief Executive Officer, Borderplex Alliance and Ricardo Mora, Chief Executive Officer, El Paso Chamber of Commerce released the following statement on the Trump Administration’s announcement of 25% tariffs on all imports from Mexico and Canada.

“Not only will tariffs kneecap consumers who are already struggling to afford basic necessities, they will cripple our community and our country’s economy. In El Paso alone, we facilitate $98 billion annually in cross border trade. Mexico and Canada are neighbors, trade partners, and allies. We hope Americans and business leaders will again raise their voices and demand the Trump Administration change course. Americans can’t afford a 25% Trump tax on all imports from Mexico and Canada – we simply can’t.”
