Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) announced her appointment on two House Armed Services subcommittees for the 116th Congress: the Subcommittee on Military Personnel and the Subcommittee on Readiness. “The Fort Bliss Army Installation is part of El Paso’s rich history and tradition, and an invaluable asset to Texas and to our national security,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues on the Armed Services Committee to preserve Fort Bliss’ importance and protect and help our service members and their families.” The Subcommittee on Military Personnel oversees Department of Defense policy and programs and accounts related to military personnel and their families, Reserve Component integration and employment, military health care, military education, dependent schools, POW/MIA issues, Morale, Welfare and Recreation, commissaries, cemeteries under the jurisdiction of the Department of Defense, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and military retirement issues. The Subcommittee on Readiness oversees Department of Defense policy and programs and accounts related to military readiness, training, logistics and maintenance, military construction, organic industrial base, the civilian and contract workforce, environment, military installations and real property management, family housing, base realignments and closures, and energy.
