Congresswoman Veronica Escobar Statement in Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month

“This month, we celebrate the incredible contributions of generations of Latinos to our country and of the cultures and traditions woven into the rich fabric of American society.

Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month:

“This month, we celebrate the incredible contributions of generations of Latinos to our country and of the cultures and traditions woven into the rich fabric of American society.

“But as we recognize the vibrancy and strength of our community, we must also acknowledge that our fight against racism, hate, and divisive political rhetoric is far from over.

“After the deadly terrorist attack against El Paso, the Trump administration continues demonizing and promoting a cruel anti-immigrant agenda that has caused pain and suffering to immigrant families and children and has painted a target on the backs of border communities like mine.

“This month let us reaffirm our commitment to fight against anti-immigrant and xenophobic policies, and work to open the doors of opportunity and build a brighter future for all Latino families in El Paso, Texas and across the country.”
