Congresswoman Veronica Escobar Votes to Approve Articles of Impeachment Against President Trump

Today, with a heavy heart but relentless in my obligation to uphold my oath of office, I stood with fellow patriots to defend our Constitution against President Trump’s abuse of power and unprecedented obstruction of Congress.

Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16), member of the House Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement on the Committee’s vote to send H.Res. 755, Articles of Impeachment Against President Donald J. Trump, to the full House of Representatives:

“Today, with a heavy heart but relentless in my obligation to uphold my oath of office, I stood with fellow patriots to defend our Constitution against President Trump’s abuse of power and unprecedented obstruction of Congress.

“The evidence is uncontested. The President placed his private, political interests above our national security, above our free and fair elections, and above Congress’ ability to hold public officials accountable.

“This dangerous behavior exposed that our democracy is more fragile than we understood, and Congress has a unique obligation to protect it for El Pasoans and all Americans. That is why we are taking action.”
