Congresswoman Veronica Escobar Statement on House Vote to Raise the Wage for El Paso Workers

This legislation gradually raises the minimum wage to $15 by 2025 and, according to an independent economic analysis from the Economic Policy Institute, increases wages for nearly 151,000 El Paso workers and lifts millions of workers and children across the country out of poverty:
Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 582, the Raise the Wage Act. This legislation gradually raises the minimum wage to $15 by 2025 and, according to an independent economic analysis from the Economic Policy Institute, increases wages for nearly 151,000 El Paso workers and lifts millions of workers and children across the country out of poverty: “No person working full-time in El Paso should be living in poverty. Today, after more than a decade without an increase in the federal minimum wage, the House of Representatives delivered on our promise to lift hard working families out of poverty and secure fairness and equality for working women, narrowing the gender wage gap that disproportionally impacts women in our community. “Increasing the minimum wage is not only good for our workers, it is good for our local economy and businesses. This vote reaffirms my commitment to put money in the pockets of El Paso families so they can spur economic growth that benefits everyone.” ### |
