Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) released the following statement on the ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis:
"Today in Minneapolis, ICE shot a woman in the head and killed her. Several eye-witness videos of the shooting that have been shared online make it clear that the Department of Homeland Security’s claim that an agent shot in self-defense is a blatant lie. Let me repeat: the Department of Homeland Security is lying to the American people about a shooting committed by one of their agents in broad daylight. The Trump Administration and Secretary Kristi Noem are treating U.S. citizens as disposable casualties in their lawless mass deportation campaign, and they are allowing - possibly encouraging - their untrained, under-qualified agents to act recklessly and cruelly in American communities. It must stop.
"The people of Minneapolis are rightfully outraged, and I echo the sentiments expressed by Mayor Jacob Frey: the Department of Homeland Security is not making Americans more safe, they are doing the opposite. Under the Trump Administration, the Department of Homeland Security has no credibility, no integrity, and no sense of obligation to the public they serve. It is my hope that there is a thorough investigation and the agent(s) involved are held accountable in a court of law."
