Congresswoman Escobar Launches Bilingual Online Survey on U.S. Postal Service

Congresswoman Escobar launched a bilingual online survey to gather information from El Pasoans about their experiences with mail delivery delays and concerns about the future of the U.S. Postal Service (USPS).
Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) launched a bilingual online survey to gather information from El Pasoans about their experiences with mail delivery delays and concerns about the future of the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). The online survey was announced to constituents today on Congresswoman Escobar’s e-newsletter and is available in English and Spanish at escobar.house.gov/survey until August 28, 2020, at 10:00 p.m. MT. “The USPS is a pillar of our democracy, enshrined in the Constitution, and essential for providing critical services to our nation. Unfortunately, President Donald Trump and his mega-donor Postmaster General Louis DeJoy pushed for new operational changes that degraded postal service, delayed the mail, and threatened the ability of El Pasoans to cast their votes through the mail in the 2020 elections,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “In my fight to save the USPS, I am asking my constituents to share how the recent changes to the USPS have affected them and their businesses during this difficult time.” Congresswoman Escobar’s bilingual survey is one aspect of her broader effort to respond to recent attacks on the USPS by President Trump and Postmaster General DeJoy who have made major operational changes to the USPS during the coronavirus pandemic which have contributed to a dramatic increase in delayed and undelivered mail – including medicine, Social Security benefits, paychecks, and tax returns – to El Pasoans and Americans across the country. In response these actions, Congresswoman Escobar joined House Democrats in sending a letter to Postmaster General DeJoy calling for the reversal of the changes, conducted an oversight visit to the USPS El Paso Processing and Distribution Center, and met with USPS employees to discuss how these changes have impacted their jobs. Congresswoman Escobar is a cosponsor of H.R. 8015, the Delivering for America Act, which provides $25 billion in emergency funding to the Postal Service and prohibits the agency from implementing any changes to operations or levels of service it had in place on January 1, 2020.
