Congresswoman Escobar Statement on Women’s Equality Day and 100th Anniversary of the Adoption of the 19th Amendment
El Paso, Texas,
August 26, 2020
Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16), a Vice Chair of the Democratic Women's Caucus (DWC), issued the following statement on Women’s Equality Day, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the 19th Amendment: “One hundred years ago, after intense struggle, persistence, and adversity, the 19th Amendment was finally adopted in our Constitution, guaranteeing women the right to vote. “Today, as we honor the brave suffragists who came before us and recognize the millions of women of color who were excluded from democracy for too long, let us celebrate progress by devoting ourselves – as they did – to achieving true economic, social, and political equality for all women in America. “Let us continue opening the doors of opportunity so that all women can make their voices heard from the ballot box to the boardroom, Congress, and the White House.” ### |
