Congresswoman Escobar Statement on the Inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris and Executive Actions
Washington,
January 20, 2021
Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement on the inauguration of President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. and Vice President Kamala D. Harris and executive actions and legislative initiatives announced: “Today marks the end of a dark and painful chapter for El Paso and our country and the beginning of a new era of unity, hope, and healing. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris now have the immense honor and responsibility to lead our nation and address converging crises – from the devastating pandemic that has killed more than 1,600 El Pasoans, to the economic crisis, the climate crisis, and the crisis of systemic racism. “There is no time to waste to undo the enormous harm caused by the previous administration’s reckless and hateful policies. The first round of executive actions and immigration legislative proposal are a first step to changing the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing economic relief El Paso families, tackling climate change, and fixing our broken immigration system by restoring humanity and American values. “I applaud these efforts and look forward to working with the Biden-Harris administration and my colleagues in Congress to turn these executive actions into lasting legislation to improve the lives of all Americans and the vulnerable souls arriving at our doorstep.”
