Congresswoman Escobar Appointed to House Committee on Ethics and House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis for the 117th Congress

Today, the House Democratic Caucus approved the nomination of Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) to serve in the House Committee on Ethics and House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis for the 117th Congress.

The new committee assignments come in addition to Congresswoman Escobar serving as a member of the House Judiciary Committee and House Armed Services Committee for a second term.

“I am honored and grateful to have been named to the House Committee on Ethics and House Select Committee,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “These two critical committee appointments will allow me the opportunity to ensure House ethics rules are applied to the fullest to restore faith in our government, and fight to combat the climate crisis with the bold, innovative policies El Pasoans and Americans demand.”

The House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis was established in 2019 and is charged with investigating, studying, and developing ambitious climate policy recommendations to Congress, in order to build a clean energy economy and achieve substantial and permanent reductions in pollution and other activities that contribute to the climate crisis.

The House Committee on Ethics was established in 1967 and is charged with investigating and adjudicating any alleged violations of the House rules or any related statutes by House Members, officers, or employees. In addition, the Committee advices and educates House Members, officers, and employees about the application of ethics laws and rules and reviews financial disclosure statements.
