Congresswoman Veronica Escobar Statement in Celebration of Black History Month
El Paso, TX,
February 1, 2021
Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement in celebration of Black History Month: “On Black History Month, we honor the countless contributions that generations of Black Americans have made to our nation. This year, we celebrate the momentous inauguration of Vice President Kamala Harris, the first Black vice president in American history, and the legacy of countless Black leaders who sat down, stood up, and spoke out against injustice. “As we draw inspiration from their contributions to our culture, society, and democracy, we must acknowledge our unfinished work to address the challenges the Black community and other communities of color continue to face. From racial injustice to police brutality and the life-and-death inequities exposed by the coronavirus pandemic, we must be relentless in our work to ensure Black Lives Matter in El Paso and across the country.”
