Congresswoman Veronica Escobar Statement on International Women’s Day
Washington, D.C.,
March 8, 2021
Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16), Vice Chair of the Democratic Women's Caucus, issued the following statement in recognition of International Women’s Day: “Today we celebrate and honor the transformative contributions that women have made to our nation and the world. As we remember generations of trailblazing women who have fought for progress, we also recognize our unfinished work to achieve dignity and equality for all women and girls. “This year, International Women’s Day comes at a time when women are playing a critical role in responding to the coronavirus pandemic but tragically, they and their families are also bearing the brunt of this health and economic crisis. Just in the U.S. alone, nearly 3 million women have been pushed out of the workforce – disproportionately impacting women of color already affected by pay inequity. “This is unacceptable and must change. As our nation and the world rebuild and recover, we must seize the moment, break down barriers for women and girls, and demand a more equitable and inclusive world. The future of our economies, governments, and societies depend on it.” ### |
