Congresswoman Escobar Statement on Governor Abbott’s Executive Order Ending Life-Saving COVID-19 Mandates Going Into Effect Tomorrow
Washington, D.C.,
March 9, 2021
Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement on Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order ending COVID-19 mandates, including mask-wearing and limited occupancy, going into effect tomorrow: “Governor Abbott's decision to end COVID-19 restrictions is dangerously deadly and a dereliction of his fundamental obligation to protect the health and safety of Texans. “The message is clear: El Paso and other vulnerable communities across our state are on their own while Governor Abbott – a man of privilege who had the good fortune of receiving the coronavirus vaccine – plays with their lives and blames immigrants. “As I work in Congress to pass the American Rescue Plan to protect lives and livelihoods and rapidly get vaccines in the arms of the most vulnerable, I am urging El Paso residents and businesses to ignore this green light for recklessness and not let their guard down. Together, let’s follow the science by wearing masks, practicing physical distancing, and taking other precautions recommended by the CDC to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community.” ### |
