Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Congresswoman Escobar is thrilled to announce her first annual Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest.

“I am incredibly proud of our community’s roots - I started this contest in the hope that we can come together to uplift young people’s voices in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. I invite all middle school students in our district to submit an essay for consideration” - Congresswoman Veronica Escobar

This year’s prompt:


El Paso, located along the U.S. Mexico border thrives on rich history- where traditions, language, and culture from both sides of the Rio Grande come together to create the largest binational community in the United States.
“Describe how growing up in El Paso has shaped your understanding and appreciation of Hispanic Culture”

 

Contest Details:

  • Contest is open to current Middle Students (Grades 6-8) in TX-16 Congressional District and can be submitted through the form at the bottom of this page.

  • Essay must answer the prompt outlined above.

  • Word Count: 300 - 500 words.

  • Essays can be in English or Spanish.

The Deadline for the 2025 Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest is September 21 at 5:00 pm Mountain Time.

The top essays will be recognized at an award ceremony and the top submission will be entered into the Congressional Record by Congresswoman Escobar.
