In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Congresswoman Escobar hosts an annual Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest for middle school students.
“I am incredibly proud of our community’s roots - I started this contest in the hope that we can come together to uplift young people’s voices in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. I invite all middle school students in our district to submit an essay for consideration” - Congresswoman Veronica Escobar
This year’s prompt:
El Paso, located along the U.S. Mexico border thrives on rich history- where traditions, language, and culture from both sides of the Rio Grande come together to create the largest binational community in the United States.
“What does Hispanic Culture mean to you, and how has living in El Paso influenced that perspective?”
Contest Details:
The Deadline for the 2026 Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest is Sunday, September 20 at 5:00 pm MT.
The top essays will be recognized at an award ceremony in October.
