Congresswoman Escobar Reintroduces Legislation to Rename Post Office After La Fe Clinic Founder
Washington,
March 1, 2023
Today, Congresswoman Escobar reintroduced her bill to rename the United States Postal Service office located at 4400 E. Paisano Dr. after Enedina “Nina” Sanchez Cordero. Congresswoman Escobar’s legislation, H.R.1272, to designate the building as the “Enedina Sanchez Cordero Post Office Building” is in tribute to Ms. Cordero’s contributions to El Paso, most notably for her role in founding Centro De Salud Familiar La Fe. “It is an honor to once again pay tribute to an El Pasoan whose activism has improved countless lives through the years,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “Ms. Cordero was a trailblazer who worked to ensure that those who lived in El Paso’s Segundo Barrio had a better life. This kind of servant leadership created one of El Paso’s great community assets: Centro De Salud Familiar La Fe, an organization that is still thriving and providing care for people to this day.” “Nina Cordero dedicated her life and her energy to defending the health and wellbeing of Segundo Barrio’s families and her South El Paso neighbors – becoming a catalyst for social justice across the nation,” said Salvador Balcorta, Chief Executive Officer of Centro De Salud Familiar La Fe. “At the height of the Chicano Civil Rights Movement, she mobilized and led her community in a fight for a better future. Because of her activism, Centro De Salud Familiar La Fe – an award-winning Federally Qualified Health Center serving the entire El Paso, Texas County region — came to be. Thanks to Nina Cordero’s legacy and under La Fe’s watch, no child and no family are ever left behind. ¡Que Viva Nina Cordero! ¡Viva!” The full text of the bill can be found here.
