(El Paso, TX) — Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement commemorating the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. This evening, Congresswoman Escobar will join the El Paso Chapter of the 82nd Airborne for a ceremony marking the anniversary and honoring D-Day veteran Retired Army Lt. Col. Robert E. “Bob” Chisolm:

“On June 6, 1944, American and Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy to fight for democracy and liberation of the oppressed people of Europe.

“This historic day changed the course of World War II and humanity, but also changed the lives of the more than 150,000 young soldiers who defied danger for world peace and freedom. Seventy-five years later, we remain thankful for their sacrifices and contributions.

“Today, let us pay tribute to all those who never came home and to the brave men and women that served with them, and recommit ourselves to protecting and improving the lives of our veterans and military families in El Paso and across the country.”
