Congresswoman Veronica Escobar Statement on President Trump’s Plan to Steal Funding from El Paso Region Military Projects to Pay for a Wasteful and Ineffective Border Wall
El Paso, TX,
September 4, 2019
“President Trump’s irresponsible decision to steal funding for vital military construction projects in the El Paso region, the U.S. and the world, is a power grab that will undermine our national security and harm the morale and quality of life of our troops.”
Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Defense notified her that the Pentagon will transfer $3.6 billion from military construction funds, including $145 million from Fort Bliss, White Sands, and Holloman Air Force Base to build President Trump’s border wall: “President Trump’s irresponsible decision to steal funding for vital military construction projects in the El Paso region, the U.S. and the world, is a power grab that will undermine our national security and harm the morale and quality of life of our troops.” “Canceling key projects designated to support our men and women in uniform threatens readiness and the safety of American families. El Pasoans know that a wasteful, ineffective wall will do nothing to address the root causes of migration and will only worsen the humanitarian crisis at our border. “I will continue to fight against this misguided decision and work to ensure critical military construction funding is used for its intended purposes: to support our military, enhance readiness, and protect our national security.” ### |
