Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) announced that El Paso health care providers have been awarded over $33 million in federal funding to assist with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic response. The funding was distributed to over 400 health care providers in Texas’ 16th Congressional District.
“Ensuring El Pasoans have access to the resources they deserve has been one of my top priorities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and I am very pleased to have worked in Congress to secure this vital assistance for our health care workers and providers on the frontlines,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “Tragically, the number of deaths in our community continues to increase and we have now lost 102 lives to COVID-19. Complacency is not an option and I will continue advocating to protect the lives and livelihoods of El Pasoans during this unprecedented health and economic crisis.” The funding was authorized and made available by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the third coronavirus response which Congresswoman Escobar helped craft with community input and was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives and signed by President Trump on March 27, 2020. The CARES Act secured critical provisions for El Paso workers and their families and made the unprecedented and historic investment of almost $200 billion for our health care system in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The funding will be distributed to healthcare providers by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through the Provider Relief Fund which supports hard-working families and the heroic healthcare providers in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
