Congresswoman Escobar Statement on Donald Trump’s Visit to Texas

Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) released the following statement ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit to Alamo, Texas:

“Today, nearly a week after a deadly domestic terrorist attack against the United States of America and in the midst of a global pandemic that has devastated our communities, President Donald Trump will visit the southern border in order to further politicize and celebrate his cruel immigration policies.

“Like a criminal who returns to the scene of a crime, he simply cannot help but gloat about stealing military funding to build an ineffective wall; separating thousands of children, traumatizing an entire generation of families; and violating U.S. and international practices and laws intended to protect vulnerable migrants. His abhorrent policies only served to make America less safe.

“While I wish he would have resigned after inciting a terrorist attack against our country, may his visit to the border be a reminder to the country about the grave human rights abuses that occurred during the most incompetent, xenophobic, and cruel administration in our nation’s history, and may we recommit ourselves to the work ahead to pursue justice and repair the deep damage done by Donald Trump and his many enablers.”
