Congresswoman Escobar Statement on Prime Minister Netanyahu Address
Washington, D.C.,
July 25, 2024
Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) released the following statement on the upcoming address to a Joint Session of Congress by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “An invitation to address a Joint Session of Congress is among the highest honors our government can grant a foreign leader. It is a privilege to speak directly to the American public and the world. “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is unworthy of this invitation. His reckless execution of the war in Gaza demonstrates his disinterest in mitigating the loss of civilian life, abiding by international law, or prioritizing the return of hostages - whose families I will meet with today. “One can support Israel’s right to self-defense without the unconditional support for its current government that some demand. “I will not be in attendance.”
