Congresswoman Escobar Celebrates Groundbreaking of Fort Bliss Rail Yard

Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) joined leadership from Fort Bliss and the community to celebrate the long-awaited groundbreaking of the military base’s rail yard. This project would bolster mobility and rapid deployment capabilities at one of the largest military installations in the country.

“Part of maintaining readiness means investing in vital infrastructure at installations with rapid deployment requirements, like Fort Bliss. Securing this funding has long been a priority of mine and I'm proud that after years of advocacy, Fort Bliss has the needed investment to break ground here today,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “I’m delighted to see this project’s construction begin, ensuring Fort Bliss maintains its readiness and mobility capabilities for years to come.”

Congresswoman Escobar has advocated for years for the construction and funding of a rail yard for Fort Bliss.

In August 2022, she hosted the Under Secretary of the Army and El Paso native, Gabe Camarillo, on a tour of Fort Bliss and its critical assets. During his visit, Congresswoman Escobar also convened Fort Bliss leadership to discuss the importance of securing funding.

In 2023, Congresswoman Escobar secured $74 million for the rail yard through the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

In 2024, Congresswoman Escobar fought for the inclusion of $44M to complete the Rail Yard at Fort Bliss.
