Congresswoman Escobar Joins Village of Vinton for Groundbreaking of Water and Sewer Infrastructure Project

Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) joined local leaders and stakeholders for the groundbreaking of the Village of Vinton’s Water and Sewer Phase III Project. Congresswoman Escobar secured $4 million in federal funding for this project as part of her 15 community project funding requests for Fiscal Year 2023. Funding for this project was included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023.

“I’m proud to again have secured transformational funding for our community,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “The Village of Vinton is using those funds to expand potable water in Vinton and connect fire hydrants, local businesses, and more to much-needed water infrastructure. I will continue to use my position on the Appropriations Committee to fight for our community and bring home the dollars needed to make critical projects a reality — projects that improve lives across our region.”

“This is what effective government and leadership looks like," said County Commissioner Sergio Coronado. "Collaboration between our elected officials and local governments is essential to providing our community what it needs. We are fortunate that we have an elected official in Congresswoman Escobar, that uses her seat on the Appropriations Committee, to help our community with funding for essential projects that improve our quality of life.”

“This project would not be possible without Congresswoman Escobar’s leadership and commitment to communities like Vinton,” said Village of Vinton Mayor Rachel Quintana. “Her support for critical water, sewer, and transportation funding is helping us deliver long-overdue infrastructure improvements that will strengthen our local economy and improve quality of life for our residents.”

This project provides for the expansion of a looped water and sewer system with a wholesale supply of treated potable water and treatment of wastewater for the local business sector. The proposed system includes approximately 21,600 linear feet of 8-to-12-inch waterline, one master meter, 44 fire hydrants, and approximately 65 first-time commercial service connections. On the wastewater side, the system would include 13,980 linear feet of 8-inch sewer line and the decommissioning of 59 onsite sewage facilities. The implementation of adequate water and sewer infrastructure will address public safety and health concerns that include fire flow and environmental health.
