“The deployment of U.S. military personnel to the U.S.-Mexico border by the Trump administration has proven to be a misuse of resources and a political effort intended to further the administration's manufactured crisis.
Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement after the House Armed Services’ full committee hearing on the Department of Defense’s support to the southern border: “The deployment of U.S. military personnel to the U.S.-Mexico border by the Trump administration has proven to be a misuse of resources and a political effort intended to further the administration's manufactured crisis. “As President Trump continues to threaten to declare a national emergency, it is imperative for the House Armed Services Committee to continue seeking answers about the Department of Defense’s presence at the southern border, the true costs to the American taxpayers, and how it impacts our military readiness. “El Paso, border communities, and our country deserve a smart, safe and humane border policy. Congress should ensure that we achieve this without jeopardizing our national security and our overseas missions.” A video of Congresswoman Escobar’s questions to Department of Defense officials is available here. ### |
