Congresswoman Veronica Escobar Statement on House Vote to Terminate President Trump’s Unlawful Emergency Declaration

“Today, I voted to uphold our Founding Fathers’ vision for our nation, defend our Constitution, and reject an erroneous narrative that portrays border communities like El Paso, as a problem.

Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives voted on the privileged resolution to terminate President Trump’s unlawful emergency declaration:

“Today, I voted to uphold our Founding Fathers’ vision for our nation, defend our Constitution, and reject an erroneous narrative that portrays border communities like El Paso, as a problem.

“There is no national emergency at our southern border, and President Trump’s unlawful declaration only hurts our military readiness and does nothing to address the root causes of our nation’s challenges.

“The House of Representatives took the first step to protect our system of checks and balances against the President’s brazen assault. I’m now calling on the Republican-controlled Senate to swiftly schedule a vote on this matter and do the right thing for El Pasoans and Americans across the country.”
