Congresswoman Veronica Escobar Statement on 2020 Census Court Ruling

“Today’s court ruling is a rejection of the Trump administration’s attempts to target immigrant communities and subvert the Census Bureau for its political purposes."

Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement in response to a federal court ruling against the Trump administration’s decision to include a citizenship question on the 2020 Census:

“Today’s court ruling is a rejection of the Trump administration’s attempts to target immigrant communities and subvert the Census Bureau for its political purposes.

“A citizenship question on the 2020 Census not only violates Americans’ privacy, it also endangers the fair allocation of federal funding for El Paso and communities across Texas, and endangers our democracy.

“While this decision is the first victory against the Trump administration’s efforts to weaponize our census, Congress must act in a bipartisan way to protect the accuracy and integrity of the Census Bureau.”
