Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement after the House Judiciary Committee’s hearing on H.R.1, the “For the People Act of 2019”, legislation that impacts voting rights, campaign finance, lobbying, and government ethics laws: “Democrats stand ready to deliver on our promise to put hardworking families first and return power to the people. “The ‘For the People Act of 2019’ is the first step in laying a strong foundation for our democracy’s future. This bold reform package will break down the barriers to voting in my home state of Texas, end discriminatory voter roll purging and partisan gerrymandering, and ensure our elected officials act in the best interest of the people. “Now more than ever, our country needs transparency and accountability.
